While the automaker has yet to unveil the actual vehicle and no spy shots have surfaced to date, renderings have already outlined the core silhouette of this rugged hardcore SUV. Unlike BMW’s current lineup of urban-focused crossover models, the G74 completely ditches sleek, rounded lines in favor of a boxy, upright square-body profile, capturing the uncompromising tough presence of traditional hardcore off-roaders and delivering immense visual impact.
At the same time, the new model does not simply replicate the retro design of classic off-road vehicles. Instead, it incorporates BMW’s Neue Klasse next-generation family design language, with cleaner, more understated overall lines that blend modern sophistication with rugged poise. As staple features for a hardcore off-roader, it comes fully equipped with heavy-duty all-terrain (AT) tires, exceptional ground clearance, and dedicated protective armor, paired with wide, robust black wheel arches to enhance its off-road traversability.
In terms of its core architecture, the all-new BMW G74 will be built on a modified iteration of the next-generation BMW X5 platform. This setup not only keeps research and development (R&D) and manufacturing costs controllable, but also retains BMW’s proven expertise in chassis tuning. The vehicle, which carries the exclusive chassis codename G74, will share its powertrain lineup with the next-generation X5. It is expected to be offered in gasoline, mild-hybrid, and even plug-in hybrid variants, striking a balance between on-road handling prowess and off-road torque delivery, as well as between daily commuting needs and extreme off-road scenarios.
