As reported, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 will drop the plug-in hybrid system, instead adopting a 4.0T biturbo V8 engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. In terms of exterior design, the spy shots released this time show the car with significantly less camouflage than previous test vehicles. Its overall front fascia design is largely unchanged from the current model, while the internal light source layout of the headlight clusters has been revised – visually, it features the star emblem design consistent with the new Mercedes S-Class sedan. A large vertical-slat grille takes center stage at the front, with a sizable air intake still featured in the lower bumper. Additionally, the car in the spy shots is fitted with 21-inch wheels and red brake calipers. The internal design of the new model’s taillights has also been updated to the three-pointed star emblem style; AMG’s signature square quad exhaust pipes are positioned on either side of the rear bumper, with the AMG logo visible in the fine details.
On the powertrain front, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 will forsake the current plug-in hybrid setup, opting instead for a 4.0T biturbo V8 engine combined with a 48V mild hybrid system. Specific powertrain figures remain unannounced for now, but the model is expected to be equipped with an all-new flat-plane crank V8 engine and larger turbochargers. Its 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system are also set to undergo retuning.
