Spy Shots of All-New Volkswagen Golf Prototype Test Vehicle Revealed

2025 11/14

The new model is the ninth-generation Volkswagen Golf. Previously, there were rumors that the fuel-powered version of the Golf would cease production with the eighth generation, and an all-electric Golf would take its place in the future. However, currently, due to the wavering stance of regions such as Europe regarding the 2035 ban on internal combustion engine vehicles, as well as the rapid development of electric vehicles in China, some established European automakers have begun to re-invest in the research and development of the next generation of fuel-powered vehicles to prevent further shrinkage of their market share.

From the spy shots, the entire vehicle is still in the early mule car testing phase. It can be seen that the test vehicle is based on the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTE model for testing in aspects such as powertrain.

We can clearly notice that there are disproportionately widened wheel arches on the front wheel fenders of the new model, which indicates that the front track width of the all-new Golf will be longer than that of the current model, and it is expected to be equipped with an all-new powertrain. According to currently publicly available information, Volkswagen Group will still offer purely fuel-powered, 48V mild hybrid, HEV hybrid, and "GTE" - badged PHEV (plug-in hybrid) versions in the future, and the all-new Golf is expected to be equipped with the aforementioned powertrains as well.
