The development plan for the all-electric Audi RS6 e-tron has been terminated, and whether the vehicle’s final name would have been RS6 e-tron remains unconfirmed for now. According to Audi officials, the model could not justify its development value due to insufficient market demand. It is reported that the adoption rate of electric vehicles has not met expectations, forcing many enterprises to reassess their strategic plans, and a number of manufacturers have cancelled electric vehicle projects.
Audi officials stated that high-performance models based on the premium electric platform (PPE) are currently under development. Previous reports indicated that the maximum power of high-performance Audi models based on this platform may exceed 700 horsepower. Despite the cancellation of the all-electric RS6 plan, rumors suggest that the new-generation fuel-powered RS6 is under development. While it may not match the impressive performance figures of all-electric powertrains, the new model is likely to adopt electrified assist technology and be equipped with a six-cylinder engine. For reference, the Audi E5 Sportback, currently launched by Audi in collaboration with SAIC Motor in China, is equipped with dual motors and has a maximum power of 787 horsepower.
