Official images of the new Ford Explorer have been officially revealed. Marketed by the brand as a "long-distance overlanding flagship", the new model is built on the premium CD6 longitudinal rear-wheel drive platform. It will be offered in five trim levels: 4WD Overland Edition, 4WD Trend Plus Edition, Titanium Edition, Crimson Gold Edition, and Kunlun Peak Edition. With comprehensive upgrades to its exterior, luxury interior, smart cockpit, and off-road capability, the vehicle caters to diverse scenarios ranging from premium urban commuting to long-distance overlanding and outdoor off-roading. The new model is set to make its official market launch on July 6.
On the powertrain front, the entire range is powered by a longitudinal 2.3T turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 213 kW of maximum power and 445 N·m of peak torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The intelligent disconnectable all-wheel drive system comes as standard across the lineup, paired with the TMS Terrain Management System that enables millisecond-fast 2WD/4WD switching. Five driving modes are available: Sport, Eco, Normal, Slippery, and Off-Road. The chassis features a high-grade double-ball-joint front suspension and an integrated multi-link rear suspension, with all-aluminum lower control arms at both the front and rear, reducing unsprung mass by 53.8%.
