Haier Invests 10 Billion in Autohome: How a Non-Manufacturing Automotive Ecosystem Can Disrupt the Industry?
On February 20, Haier's subsidiary, CARTECH HOLDING COMPANY, agreed to acquire a 41.91% stake in Autohome from Ping An's Yun Chen Capital Cayman for approximately $1.8 billion. Upon completion, CARTECH HOLDING COMPANY will become the controlling shareholder of Autohome.
It is worth noting that Autohome's original shareholder, Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance, will retain a portion of its shares and continue to support the development of Autohome alongside Haier. Autohome is one of the largest automotive information and service platforms in China, with a 20-year accumulated vehicle database and tens of millions of daily active users. The company has proactively expanded into innovative businesses such as data products, new and used car transactions, and offline energy stations.
Haier's acquisition of Autohome through its subsidiary, CARTECH HOLDING COMPANY, may seem like a cross-industry move to capture traffic, but it is actually a strategic positioning to lay out a new automotive ecosystem.
